Why Insulate?

• By reducing heat loss energy is saved and running costs are greatly reduced.
• Surface temperature can be reduced to a safe level.
• Insulation reduces random heat gain/loss which makes a building more pleasant in summer and easier to control in winter.
• Uninsulated small diameter steam pipes can become choked with internal condensation.
• To reduce the risk of freezing of external pipework.
• Condensation on low temperature services can be prevented.
• Noise breakout from pipes or ducts can be reduced and internal noise in ducts suppressed.

Fire Safety

In considering fire performance, the products to be used should minimise transmission of fire, add minimal combustible materials and not generate smoke or toxic fumes when exposed to heat.

In other words insulation should not contribute to the fuel load.
